| Matthieu and Susanne Garrigues commemorative plaque Inscription: In Memory of Susannah Garrigues Who Departed This Life The 30th Day of Sept. 1746 Aged 67 Years And Also of Her Husband Matthew Garrigues Died Sept. 6, 1726
Christ Church Cemetery. Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA, USA
[Note: this plaque was emplaced in 2000 by Robert Garrigus, Bill, Bev, and Margaret Garrigues. It restates the inscription of Susannah's original stone which still stands. It adds a mention of Susannah's husband Matthew who was also interred in Christ Church Cemetery but for whom no tombstone is extant. The spellings are not the original French variants but are maintained as they are found on the original stone and in Christ Church records. In 2003, Christ Church historians cited this remembrance project as the major catalyst for a subsequent restoration project for the cemetery. It is now open to the public and the Garrigues/Garrigus project is one of the major reasons.] |

| Susanne Garrigues Headstone Christ Church Cemetery. Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA, USA
Inscription: "In Memory of Susannah Garrigues who departed this life the 30th day of Septr 1746 Aged 67 years."
Note: The original spelling of Susannah's name was "Susanne" according to Walloon Church records. There is one occurrence of the name spelled as "Suzanne."
The inscription was still discernible as of the summer of 2001. To commemorate the site and to assist future descendants in locating it Robert Garrigus, along with Bill & Bev Garrigues, financed the emplacement of a plaque at the foot of the original stone. It simply restates Susannah's original inscription and adds the name of her husband Matthieu who preceded her in death. The original stone stands undisturbed. |
